What’s YOUR Reality TV show? (Watch Milan on You Tube – see below!)
(Third in a four part series)
Wall Street’s belief system?
“The values of property will continue to rise. We can count on it.”
As this house of cards came to a crashing halt recently, many of us were stunned… our security was being robbed before our very eyes. Billions of us around the world protested with a loud outcry. Our rage then turned to resentment and by now, many of us are in an emotional puddle feeling depressed and despondent. As our earthly source of security was removed or seriously jeopardized, many of us have become anxious, despairing and despondent.
I just heard the following quote on CNN: “Unrealistic expectations in the face of the true realities, has caused investors to panic.”
What’s real? What’s reality? What can I expect? What can I really count on?
Last week, we learned that the sacrificial system in the Old Testament didn’t make the worshippers perfect, rather it only pointed out sin. That was their reality. Daily, weekly, monthly yearly, repeating the words, “I’m a sinner, I’m a sinner, and I’m a sinner …here is another sacrifice, and another, and yet…another.”
What was Jesus Christ’s reality TV show?
Had there been TV cameras, we would have seen a scraggly, bloody, weak and pathetic man being executed on a Roman cross.
Like a scary movie or perhaps like the audience watching Roman gladiators kill one another, we would have watched in horror, wanting to turn away, yet our minds too captivated to stop staring.
It wasn’t a staged show with the losing contestants being driven back to their hotel in a limo.
This was as real as it gets.
What did happen on The Cross 2000 years ago?
A mere execution?
Another ugly Roman crucifixion that was meant to scare and terrorize the common citizen?
Chapter 10 of Hebrews says the following:
9. (Jesus said) “Behold, I have come to do Thy will,” He takes away the first in order to establish the second.”
10. By this will we have been sanctified through the offerings of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
12. But He having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God.
14. For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
17. And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.
18. Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Jesus was the final sacrifice.
The final lamb slaughtered. That was His ultimate reality.
In so doing, the Christian who puts faith in this final sacrifice of the Old Testament era has been made perfect for all time.
For the believer, this is our new reality. The only thing that is real and lasting.
The one thing in this life that we can count on!
Our only true security.
We’ll continue to use Hebrews 10:1-25 as our base for understanding our true reality show.
Love and blessings,
Milan and Kay
Next week: We will study Hebrews 10:18-25 and look at the reality of the Christian’s world.
